The Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance (MHSA) is a non-profit 501(c)3 public policy advocacy organization with the sole mission of ending homelessness in the Commonwealth. Through strategic partnerships formed with government, businesses, private philanthropy, service providers and homeless individuals, MHSA works to ensure that homelessness does not become a permanent part of the social landscape.
Founded in 1988 by a coalition of Greater Boston homeless service providers and citizens seeking to end homelessness, MHSA represents 90 community-based agencies statewide. Our member organizations operate more than 250 programs that serve about 98 percent of all homeless individuals in Massachusetts.
What we do:
- Educate about the plight of homeless people and solutions that work to end their struggle
- Advocate for strategic use of public and private dollars based on research and best practices
- Innovate more cost-effective and efficient solutions to end homelessness
- Collaborate with all levels of government and the private sector to bring our poorest neighbors home for good
